Government of West Bengal, Strengthening the Revival of Bengal
Kolkata, 21 August 2026: Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) today inaugurated its new Design &
Operations Centre at its Passenger Rail Systems (PRS) facility in Uttarpara, West Bengal. The facility was
inaugurated in the presence of Shri Tapas Roy, Hon’ble Minister of Industry & Commerce, Government of
West Bengal, and Shri Arjun Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Labour & Transport, Government of West Bengal.
This significant step marks an important step in Titagarh’s journey towards strengthening its in-house
design, engineering and operational capabilities. The facility will serve as a hub for advanced engineering,
design-led innovation and technology development, supporting Titagarh’s growing portfolio across
passenger rail systems.
The inauguration is a direct reflection of the Sonar Bangla vision championed by Hon’ble Chief Minister
Shri Suvendu Adhikari Ji, under whose leadership the Government of West Bengal has placed the revival
of Bengal and its industrialisation at the centre of the State’s development agenda.
The inauguration underscores Titagarh’s continued commitment to building world-class rail manufacturing
capabilities in India from Bengal and strengthening West Bengal’s position in India’s evolving rail
manufacturing ecosystem. It also reinforces Titagarh’s commitment to “Make in India, Make for the
World.” Titagarh remains committed to growing alongside the Government of West Bengal’s renewed
focus on industrial development and looks forward to new policies, infrastructure and investment
opportunities.
Commenting on the occasion, Shri Tapas Roy, Hon’ble Minister of Industry & Commerce, Government of
West Bengal, said, “I am truly amazed to see metro coaches and trains being manufactured from scratch
here in Bengal, and Titagarh’s trains being supplied to cities such as Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad Bengaluru,
Patna, Mumbai, also next generation modern Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains. In coming days we are confident
that we will be able to see Kolkata Metro added to this list, and I hope we hear this news soon. The work
being undertaken by Titagarh is truly commendable and aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat and the
revival of Bengal. A Viksit Bengal is essential for a Viksit Bharat. We must work together to realise this
vision and restore Bengal’s glory as a leading hub of industry and manufacturing.”
Commenting on the occasion, Shri Arjun Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Labour & Transport, Government of
West Bengal, said, “The Government of West Bengal will continue to play its role in creating a beneficial
environment for industrial growth, under the guidance of our Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Suvendu
Adhikari ji. However, the responsibility for driving industrial development rests with industry itself.
Enterprises such as Titagarh have a vital role to play in shaping Bengal’s industrial future. Together, through
a strong partnership between the Government and industry, we will work towards strengthening Bengal’s
industrial ecosystem and unlocking the State’s immense potential for sustainable growth.”
Commenting on the occasion, Shri Umesh Chowdhary, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Titagarh Rail
Systems Limited, said, “We are encouraged by the renewed focus of the Government of West Bengal on
accelerating Bengal’s industrial and economic growth. The vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra
Modi Ji for a Viksit Bharat, with its emphasis on Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, aligns strongly
with Titagarh’s commitment to building advanced manufacturing and engineering capabilities in Bengal
for India and the world. The inauguration of our new Design & Operations Centre marks another milestone
in strengthening our design, engineering and innovation capabilities. Titagarh is fully committed to
contributing to Bengal’s manufacturing legacy and working closely with the Government towards its
revival and industrialisation, under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari Ji and
his vision of Sonar Bangla. We are grateful for the presence and support of the Hon’ble Ministers, which
further reinforces Bengal’s growing role in India’s manufacturing, engineering and mobility ecosystem.”
As Bengal aspires to emerge as a global manufacturing hub in line with the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s
