Management
Commentary
FY27 has commenced on a soft note, shaped largely by the continuing effects of the crisis in West Asia, which
affected our Middle East exports and, through commodity prices, our domestic business as well.
The recovery in exports has taken longer than we originally expected, primarily on account of a persistent
increase in shipping costs throughout Q1. Container costs have risen between 3x and 5x for certain
geographies. This has materially escalated the landed cost for our customers and has led to a slower pick-up in
export dispatches during the quarter. The increase is not limited to the Middle East. Shipping costs to North
America have also risen significantly on account of ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, which is affecting
customer decisions.
On the domestic front, passing on commodity inflation arising from the West Asia crisis has taken longer than
anticipated. Negotiations with customers extended through much of the quarter, which resulted in slower
dispatches in Q1FY27.
We also remain on
