PRESS RELEASE
SJVN Achieves COD of 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project in Bihar
Shimla: 11.08.2026
Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN has informed that SJVN has
successfully achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the 75 MW Jamui Solar Power
Project in Jamui District of Bihar. The project has been executed through wholly owned
subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) marking another significant milestone in
company’s renewable energy journey.
Sh. Ajay Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN, informed that the 75 MW project is expected to
generate approximately 90 million units of electricity during its first year of operation and around
3,522 million units cumulatively over a period of 25 years. The project has been developed over
approximately 300 acres of outright-purchased land near Village Hadhadiya, Kakanchaur, in
Jamui District of Bihar, at an estimated project cost of ₹1,342 crore.
Sh. Parthajit De, Director (Finance), SJVN, stated that the tariff for the power generated from
the project has been fixed at ₹2.96 per unit. The competitive tariff will facilitate the availability of
affordable and clean green power to consumers. The electricity generated from the project will
be supplied to the State of Bihar.
Sh. Rajesh Chandel, Director (Projects), SJVN, informed that the project has also contributed to
employment generation and local economic development. It has created approximately 15–20
direct employment opportunities and around 5,100 indirect employment opportunities, thereby
contributing to the creation of green jobs and providing an economic impetus to the local
community.
The commissioning of the project is also a significant contribution towards the Government of
India’s target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Besides supplying
clean energy to the grid, the project is estimated to reduce approximately 82,250.74 tonnes of
carbon emissions, thereby supporting the country’s decarbonisation objectives and climate
commitments.
The 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project has been developed pursuant to the tender floated by
the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA), Government of Bihar. The
successful commissioning of the project further reinforces SGEL’s commitment to developing
renewable energy projects across the country and advancing SJVN’s vision of becoming a
leading renewable energy company.
With the commissioning of the Jamui Solar Power Project, SJVN continues to expand its
renewable energy footprint and contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and more
sustainable energy future for India.
