UPDATE
1. What specifically drove the sharp jump in ice cream revenue and
profitability this quarter, and how much of it is seasonal versus
structural?
Q1 and Q4 are seasonally the strongest quarters for our ice cream business.
Further, Melt N Mellow has seen very positive consumer acceptance of its
product portfolio in all five states i.e. Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Goa
and Andhra Pradesh. In Q1FY27 the onset of monsoon was delayed leading to
higher demand for ice cream. Due to the structural gains that we have built
over the last several quarters, such as expansion in our deep freezer network
(now at~17,280 units), launch of new premium ice cream, and improving
capacity utilization across our manufacturing base we were able to cater to
the demand. All of this has led to a 230% YoY increase in the ice cream
revenue.
The EBITDA margin of ice cream business was 10.05% up from 7.80% in
preceding quarter. The higher margin is mainly attributed to higher distribution
reach, improved utilization of existing manufacturing capacity, better
operating efficiencies and strong consumer acceptance in newly entered
markets. Margin expansion has been possible despite challenges of oil price
hikes, diesel availability issues for transport vehicles due to Iran war and slight
uptick in milk prices. This shows resilience of Melt N Mellow and capability to
scale ice cream business while being profitable.
2. Could you provide an update on the deep freezer additions during the
quarter and explain the geographies under focus?
During Q1FY27, we added ~1,780 new deep freezers in Q1 FY27, taking our
total network to ~17,280 units. More than 80% of new additions were made in
the state of Andhra Pradesh. Areas such as Tirupati, Rayalaseema,
Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam witnessed strong channel-partner tie-ups
and early traction for our premium SKUs in Andhra Pradesh. We believe the
state offers substantial long-term growth potential.
3. How will premium portfolio especially in ice cream category contribute to
the growth over the next few years?
During the period, the company introduced premium products such as the
Marvel range, along with new premium formats, with the objective of
completing its portfolio across key ice cream categories. The premium
portfolio is expected to support the company's premiumization strategy by
enhancing its presence in larger urban markets and driving stronger consumer
acceptance. With the evolving consumer preferences, we expect premium
products to become a materially larger share of ice cream revenue mix over
FY27-FY29, complementing rather than replacing our mass and mid-tier
base.
4. Nuts & dry fruits grew 10%(Y-o-Y) in Q1FY27 versus ice cream's much
sharper jump(230%) - what's driving that gap?
The Nuts & Dry Fruits business delivered steady growth during Q1 FY27, with
revenue clocked at ₹37.38 crore. This performance is in line with the inherent
seasonality of the category, as the first quarter is typically the weakest period
for nuts, while Q2 and Q3 account for the strongest demand. As a result, the
relatively moderate growth compared to the ice cream business reflects
seasonal trends. Nuts segment registered healthy EBITDA margins of 18.24%
against 12.91% in preceding one (Q4 FY26).
5. What new products were introduced in nuts and dry fruits?
The company introduced ₹ 20 on-the-go value packs across several
categories, including flavored nuts, trail mix, seed mix and flavored makhana.
These products are designed to expand usage occasions and support
premiumization.
6. What is the capacity utilization status of ice cream manufacturing facility
? Ice cream manufacturing facility is located in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar,
Maharashtra. The installed capacity is of 1.25 Lakh litre ice cream production
per day. Current capacity utilization is going at 40%. Full capacity utilization is
planned for Q1 FY29. With product acceptance in the market and continuous
investment in cooling infrastructure through Deep Freezers and Depots,
company is confident of meeting full utilization targets as per schedule.
7. Where does the nuts facility capacity expansion currently stand, and
what's the utilization ramp-up plan from here?
The expanded nuts facility, which doubled installed capacity from 10 MT
finished nuts per day to 20 MT finished nuts per day, became operational in
May 2026. We are planning a phased utilization ramp, targeting ~25%
utilization of the expanded capacity in FY27, scaling up progressively as
demand across our new and existing SKU ranges builds. Looking further out,
our roadmap contemplates capacity expanding to 30 MT/day and eventually
40 MT/day over the next two to three years, in line with our broader revenue
growth targets for the segment.
8. How do the nuts and ice cream businesses complement each other
despite being unrelated categories?
Company’s dual-business model is a deliberate strategic choice that creates
a more resilient and efficient business. While the Ice Cream and Nuts & Dry
Fruits businesses have distinct seasonal demand patterns, they complement
each other exceptionally well. Ice cream typically sees peak demand during
the summer months, whereas Nuts & Dry Fruits witness stronger sales during
festive and winter seasons. This natural diversification helps to reduce the
impact of seasonality on the company's overall revenues and profitability,
ensuring a more balanced working capital management throughout the year. It
supports the company’s vision of sustainable and profitable growth with
scale.
