SCIENCE FOR PEOPLE
ADVANCING IMPACT
SCIENCE
FOR PEOPLE
ADVANCING
IMPACT
At Biocon, we have always believed that
science must serve a larger purpose.
Scientific discovery is important, but discovery alone is never enough.
The true value of science lies in its ability to address human needs,
improve lives, and create equitable access to innovation. In healthcare,
success cannot be measured solely by scientific breakthroughs. It must
be measured by the difference those breakthroughs make in the lives
of patients and communities around the world.
This belief has guided Biocon from the very beginning.
Over the decades, we have focused our efforts on some of the world’s
most pressing healthcare challenges – diabetes, cancer, autoimmune
diseases and other chronic conditions that place an enormous burden
on patients, families and healthcare systems. Our goal has been
innovation with purpose: making advanced therapies accessible,
affordable and available to those who need them the most.
Many of our achievements reflect this commitment. We
commercialized India’s first recombinant human insulin developed
using our proprietary Pichia pastoris technology. We introduced
the world’s first biosimilar Trastuzumab, expanding access to an
advanced breast cancer therapy. We became the first company to
secure interchangeable biosimilar status in the United States for
Insulin Glargine, followed by Insulin Aspart. Our Made-in-India Insulin
Glargine reached patients in Japan. We secured the first approval for
generic Liraglutide in the UK.
These milestones are more than scientific firsts. They represent
opportunities created for patients who might otherwise have been
denied access to life-changing therapies.
Achieving this requires much more than scientific excellence. It
requires clarity of purpose, the courage to challenge convention,
the discipline to focus on unmet needs, and the ability to translate
complex science into high-quality, scalable and affordable solutions. It
also demands a deep commitment to manufacturing excellence and
global delivery, ensuring that innovation reaches patients wherever
they are.
As healthcare systems worldwide grapple with the growing burden of
chronic diseases, rising costs and persistent inequalities in access, the
need for purposeful innovation has never been greater.
The future will not belong solely to those who pioneer scientific
breakthroughs. It will belong to those who can ensure that such
breakthroughs reach millions of people reliably, affordably and at
scale.
That has been Biocon’s mission for nearly five decades.
And it remains our guiding purpose today.
