BioBTX and Rain Carbon Collaborate to Supply Renewable
Aroma(cid:415)cs to the Chemical Industry
Groningen, the Netherlands / Zelzate, Belgium, 24 September 2026 - BioBTX and Rain Carbon
are pleased to announce a strategic collabora(cid:415)on to bring renewable aroma(cid:415)c products to the
chemical industry, suppor(cid:415)ng the transi(cid:415)on toward more circular and sustainable value chains.
In July 2026, BioBTX announced a posi(cid:415)ve Final Investment Decision (FID) for the construc(cid:415)on of
its first commercial-scale plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. Based on its proprietary Integrated
Cataly(cid:415)c Cracking Process (ICCP) technology, the facility will be the world's first dedicated
greenfield plant to convert plas(cid:415)c waste into approximately 10,000 tonnes per year of renewable
aroma(cid:415)c oil containing benzene, toluene, xylenes and other aroma(cid:415)c products. The plant is
expected to become opera(cid:415)onal in early 2028, marking a significant milestone in the commercial
produc(cid:415)on of circular aroma(cid:415)cs.
For more than 150 years, Rain Carbon has transformed industrial by-products into essen(cid:415)al
carbon products and advanced materials, used in a wide range of chemical applica(cid:415)ons. Through
this collabora(cid:415)on, Rain Carbon will convert BioBTX's circular aroma(cid:415)c oil into benzene, phthalic
anhydride, and other aroma(cid:415)c deriva(cid:415)ves that meet the same rigorous quality and performance
standards as conven(cid:415)onal fossil-based products. This will enable customers across industries to
reduce the carbon footprint of their supply chains without compromising product performance.
Kris Vanherbergen, EVP Carbon Dis(cid:415)lla(cid:415)on & Advanced Materials, Rain Carbon:
“This partnership with BioBTX aligns perfectly with Rain Carbon’s mission to create value from
alterna(cid:415)ve carbon sources. By combining BioBTX’s innova(cid:415)ve technology with Rain Carbon’s
aroma(cid:415)c processing exper(cid:415)se, we can provide the market with renewable, drop-in solu(cid:415)ons that
contribute to a more circular and sustainable future.”
Ton Vries, CEO BioBTX:
“We have seen significant interest in our renewable aromatic oil from companies serving markets
such as pharmaceuticals, coatings, toys, and automotive applications. Demand for products with
higher recycled content and lower carbon footprints continues to grow, creating a clear need for
circular raw materials. Together with Rain Carbon, we can help customers build more sustainable
supply chains and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.”
