Hamburg, Germany | SMM 2026 — Marine Electricals (ME) and M3G have signed a Head of Terms Agreement marking a significant step towards the development and manufacturing of India’s first indigenous Automatic Identification System (AIS) Base Station incorporating VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) technology. The agreement brings together the Manufacturing capabilities of Marine Electricals India and, its technology partner M3G to develop an advanced maritime communication and information- exchange solution designed and manufactured in India, supporting the country’s growing focus on indigenous maritime technology and next-generation digital infrastructure under Make in India philosophy. The proposed AIS Base Station will leverage VDES technology, the evolution of conventional AIS communications, to enable enhanced data exchange between ships, shore- based infrastructure, and maritime authorities. VDES is expected to play an increasingly important role in the digitalisation of maritime operations by providing greater data capacity and supporting a broader range of maritime information services. Under the agreement, M3G and Marine Electricals will collaborate on the development, engineering, manufacturing, and commercialisation of the indigenous AIS Base Station. The partnership is intended to establish a locally developed technology platform capable of addressing the requirements of ports, coastal surveillance networks, Vessel Tra(cid:431)ic Services (VTS), maritime authorities, and other shore-based maritime applications. “This agreement represents an important milestone in our commitment to developing and deploying advanced maritime technologies from India for India and the global maritime market,” said Mr. Shailendra Shukla, Executive Director, Marine Electricals. “The integration of VDES technology into an indigenous AIS base station has the potential to significantly enhance maritime connectivity and shore-based data exchange.
