Somnath, Gujarat, July 10, 2026: Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) is strengthening its commitment towards promoting sustainable practices across India’s public and cultural spaces through its nationwide awareness initiative, ‘Bioyug On Wheels’. Building on its successful engagements at Shri Ram Mandir, Ayodhya during Dussehra celebrations, and recent activations in Rajkot and Junagadh, the initiative continues to showcase the potential of compostable PLA-based solutions as alternatives to conventional plastics. The mobile experience reached the iconic Shree Somnath Temple, creating conversations around compostable bioplastics and showcasing their potential as practical alternatives for a wide range of everyday products. Hosted at the Shree Somnath Temple parking area, the activation assumes particular significance as the temple precinct has been designated a Plastic-Free Zone. Welcoming thousands of devotees and tourists every day, Shree Somnath Temple presents an opportunity to showcase how responsible material choices can complement places of immense cultural and spiritual importance while supporting cleaner public spaces. Visitors experienced interactive demonstrations, product displays and educational exhibits explaining how compostable PLA bioplastics, produced from renewable sugarcane feedstock, can replace several commonly used single-use plastic products. The exhibition encouraged people to understand not only the products themselves but also the science, lifecycle and environmental advantages of bio-based alternatives. Bioyug On Wheels was visited by Shri VijaySinh Chavda, General Manager, Somnath Trust, who interacted with the Bioyug team and explored the wide range of compostable products made from Bioyug PLA bioplastics. Appreciating the initiative, he underscored the importance of promoting sustainable alternatives and responsible consumption, particularly in high-footfall public spaces such as places of worship. The exhibition also spoke about findings from a recent study conducted by a premier government research institution, highlighting the environmental advantages of PLA bioplastics and their role in advancing a circular economy. Speaking on the successful completion of the Somnath activation, Avantika Saraogi, Executive Director, Balrampur Chini Mills Limited, said, "It is particularly heartening to witness growing interest in sustainable solutions at the revered Shree Somnath Temple, one of India's most iconic pilgrimage destinations that welcomes millions of devotees every year. Such sacred places have the potential to lead by example in adopting environmentally responsible alternatives that help reduce plastic waste while preserving the sanctity of our heritage. Through Bioyug On Wheels, we aim to demonstrate practical, commercially viable applications of Bioyug PLA bioplastics- from water bottles, cutlery , prasad boxes to compostable garbage bags, 3D printing applications, and more to inspire greater adoption of sustainable solutions that contribute to a cleaner, greener future.” About Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (CIN: L15421WB1975PLC030118) Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) is one of the largest integrated sugar companies in India.
